Scam Alert: No WCC Youth Conference in New York

 

Our office has learned of an email scam operation that send messages claiming to be from the World Council of Churches' US Office.  The email invites recipients to participate in a youth conference being held in New York City in 2007.  This is NOT a WCC event, and should be considered a scam.

This email is an example of a "free international conference "scam. It is a confidence trick used to lure people into playing a registration fee to attend a conference that doesn't exist. The names of credible organizations are used but mixed up and confused. In this case, the name and logo of the WCC has been used.

There is no youth conference being held in New York by the WCC or the US Conference for the WCC in 2007.
