The Rev. Dr. Tyrone S. Pitts
The Rev. Dr. Tyrone S. Pitts currently serves as the Vice- Moderator of the US Conference for the World Council of Churches as well as holding a position on the WCC’s Executive and Central Committees.
As Former Director for Racial Justice, Division of Church and Society, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) Dr. Pitts worked with NCC member communions, the WorId Council of Churches, the All African Conference of Churches, other ecumenical agencies and community groups to combat racism in the US and throughout the world. He has also served as the Director of Mutual Assistance Endeavors Program (MATE), and American Baptist Urban Ministry Program in Los Angeles, California; Associate Minister of Church Mission, Calvary Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.; Art Teacher and Crisis Counselor, Rochester City School District, Rochester, New York.
The Rev. Dr. Tyrone S. Pitts is serving now as General Secretary of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc., the chief administrative officer of the Convention and is responsible for executing the policies and programs of the Convention.
Dr. Pitts attended Virginia State University, Colgate Rochester Bexley Hall/Crozier Divinity School and United Theological Seminary where he earned a BA, M. Divinity and D. Min degree respectively.
